Who Should be Hired by DISD to Watch Your Money?

I have read that DISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa is contemplating the hiring of a financial watchdog to locate fraud and waste.

It seems pretty clear that only one person should be hired for the job: Allen Gwinn of Dallas.org.

Allen he has consistently been ahead of the curve when it comes to finding waste in the DISD system. As documented by Robert Wilonsky of Dallas Observer, Sharon Boyd of DallasArena and others, Allen wrote a story on credit card abuse in May of 2005. He also was on top on the cell-phone fiasco and other deals.

Not only that, but he one-upped the DMN on their own "blockbuster" by having a searchable database on his website of all the credit card charges. How cool is that? If Allen was on board last year, we wouldn't have this story this year. Maybe DISD would've saved $20 million or so. That would've paid for the laid-off hall monitors, school equipment, and more security.

He's probably busy enough, but the smartest thing that DISD could do is to hire Allen Gwinn on a consultant basis. His resume already shines above anyone they could hire.
